“Desire therefore
my words; long for them and you will be instructed.”–Wisdom 6:11
Riza was working in Singapore when she got
word that her mother was sick and needed money for medication. However, Riza’s
salary was already allotted to monthly financial obligations. She had limited
options on who to approach for assistance since she was in a foreign land. The
only person she thought of was her cousin who is also her housemate. However,
this presented another dilemma for Riza. She was not comfortable asking her
cousin for help. They live in the same house but they rarely talk. She already
owed this cousin a lot of favors because she helped her get a job in Singapore
and even offered the house for her to stay in. She was too timid to ask for
another favor especially with regards to money. Left with no choice, she
decided to pray about it. She asked God to give her the right words to say. She
was too shy to approach her personally so she decided to use her phone first to
chat with her. She shared to her all the details of her mother’s condition.
Then, she closed the conversation with her need for financial assistance. Riza
got an immediate reply from her:
“hm”
The reply made Riza pause and wonder -“what could ‘h-m’ mean? Was she thinking as
in “hmmmm” or was she mad as in ‘hmmmp’!”. Then, she realized that ‘hm’ was
for ‘how much?’! Riza thanked her cousin profusely. She told her the amount
needed. Her cousin’s reply were not words. It was a screenshot of the on-line bank
transfer she did to Riza’s account with the exact amount that Riza needed.
Riza was desperate for help but she knew who
can teach her the right words. Jesus is the Way and truly He showed Riza the
way. - alvinfabella@yahoo.com
