ANONG PROBLEMA MO?

a personal reflection on 6th Sunday of Easter 2019 (May 26, 2019)

Jesus said "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you" (John 14:27). He ends that verse with "Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."

Teka Lord, nagbigay ka ng peace? Then why is our world filled with so much conflict?
  • Territorial disputes among countries
  • Families fighting over political positions
  • Siblings fighting over their inheritance
  • Friends resorting to gossip to get that work promotion
Nasaan ang peace dun? If that's peace who needs hate? At sa dami ng problema natin paano naman iyong "let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid"?
We all have worries. Minsan parang unli-worries pa nga. Minsan ang buhay natin parang math, puro problem solving. We are either coming out of a problem, in a problem or will face a problem. So, what's this peace that Jesus gives?
  1. Peace not as the world defines it. As He says in John 14:27 "my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you." Peace that's internal not due to external factors.
  2. Jesus gives us "the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7). Peace that keeps as focus of Him.
  3. Why should our hearts & minds not be troubled? Because God says "fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand." (Isaiah 41:10)
Kaibigan, pag ang focus mo na kay Kristo, mapayapa ang buhay mo kahit magulo ang paligid mo!
May we focus more on Jesus because He is always bigger than any of our the problems. Have blessed week ahead! - alvinfabella@yahoo.com

JUST DO IT

He turned water into wine.
He multiplied bread to feed thousands.
He calmed the storm.
He walked on water.
He made the blind see.
He made the lame walk.
He healed the sick.
He cast out the evil spirits.
He raised Lazarus from the dead.
They killed Him but He rose up after 3 days.

That's just a partial list. Ano pa ba ang dapat Niya gawin para maniwala ka na Siya ay Diyos?
The Jews doubted so they "gathered round him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." (John 10:24)
Jesus' answered "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness to me" (John 10:25)
They wanted Jesus to SAY it but HE was already DOING it. Jesus showed that action always speaks louder than words. They saw the miracles yet they did not believe.
If you want miracles to come in your life, A-C-T now.
  • A-pproach God. Matthew 11:28 says "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." It starts with COME. You have to act. You have to move.
  • C-hrist powered. Doing something will wear you out. Well, that's if you depend on your strength. Don't do that. Instead depend on Jesus. Remember Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things in him who strengthens me."
  • T-rust God. HE directs everything. Proverbs 16:9 says "A man’s mind plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps." God knows what's best for you so He will direct you to the right path. As He said, "I AM THE WAY" (John 14:6)
ACT. Approach God, be Christ-powered & Trust Him. Have blessed weekend! - alvinfabella@yahoo.com

"SUMUNOD NAMAN TAYO PLS"

May nakita ka na bang pader na may "BAWAL MAGTAPON NG BASURA DITO"?

Tapos dun pa may tambak ng basura. Maybe we don't know how to read. Or we just hate following a simple rule.
We find it hard to follow. Jesus, in today's Gospel, gives us a new commandment - "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another" (John 13:34)
Wait, love one another? Paano iyong mga un-loveable? Ang hirap naman.
"Dura lex sed lex" is a Latin phrase that means "the law is is hard, but it is the law". The law of God calls us to LOVE. No matter how difficult it is. Sabi ni Saint Thomas Aquinas "ang batas ay ang kautusan ng katuwiran na ginawa upang makamit ang kabutihang panlahat." Loving is not about us. It's about God & others. Following the law is for the greater good. Always be loving even if it becomes un-comfortable. John 15:13 says thay "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

So always choose to, LOVE instead of hate, PEACE over conflict, TO UNDERSTAND before judging & TO CARE FOR OTHERS before our own concerns.

Before you say or post something bad about someone remember what the sign says - "BAWAL MAGTAPON NG BASURA DITO". Garbage like hate, bitterness, envy, lust & negativity have no place in your life.
Always follow the law. Follow God. Follow His commandments no matter how difficult they are. Have blessed week! - alvinfabella@yahoo.com

“HU U?" (WHO ARE YOU?)

Are you bad at remembering names? I am.

I can recall where I met the person. I know his face & our common friends. I am sure that I know the person. But I can’t remember the name. Sometimes, it leads to an embarrassing situation. If you’re like me, be thankful! Because if it’s only the name you forget you’re better than the disciples. The disciples had a bigger problem because they "did not realize that it was Jesus” (John 21:4).
Jesus was with them for three consecutive years. Tatlong taon! Paano mo naman di makikilala ang taong kasama mo ng 3 taon?
This God-man Jesus performed miracles right before their eyes. They saw Him multiply bread to feed thousands, give vision to the blind, heal the leper, make the lame walk & performed other miracles. They saw Jesus walked on water with Peter. Despite all of these, the verse says that they "did not realize that it was Jesus”.
Weird, right? Things look weird when we see it done by other people. But when we realized that it also happens to us it’s not so weird after all. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE ALSO DON’T RECOGNIZE JESUS.
How did the disciples fail to see Jesus? How do we fail recognizing HIM?
Read the verse before John 21:4 - "Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We also will come with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing” (John 21:3). There are 3 reasons why we fail to see Jesus.
  • First, Peter said, “I am going fishing.” We read that & we say what’s wrong with that? Our first Pope wants to fish. Ano big deal dun? We forget that Peter gave up fishing three years ago. Three years ago, Jesus said to Peter & his friends “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Then they “at once they left their nets and followed him” (Matthew 4:20). This is the first reason why we fail to see Jesus - WHEN WE GO BACK TO OUR OLD WAYS. We meet Jesus and we realized our sinfulnes so we repent. But then later on we go back to our old-not-so-good ways. This leads us to missing out Jesus. When we sin, we don’t recognize Jesus.
  • Secondly, Peter said, “I am going fishing”. Fishing was Peter’s livelihood. This is the second reason why we fail to recognize Jesus. WHEN WE RELY MORE ON OUR LIVELIHOOD or ON WHAT WE DO than WHAT GOD can do in our lives. If I work, I eat. If I work hard, I achieve success. If I am talented, I can be the best! That’s what the world teaches us. When we think that the world is all about US we will never recognize how much God blesses us. It should not be about us, it should be all about God.
  • Lastly, read the last line of the verse "So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing”. Nothing, zero. The third reason why we missed out Jesus is WHEN WE EXPERIENCED FAILURES. How many times did you hear someone deny the existence of God because they failed? I witnessed a lot. They say things like: “Mabait naman ako bakit nalugi ang negosyo ko? Asan ang Diyos?", “Bakit niloko ako ang asawa ko? Wala sigurong Diyos!" or “Walang Diyos. Kasi ang healthy niya bakit nagkaroon siya ng kanser?God allows us to fail because HE is offering is something better than our goals. Jesus has something way, way better.

Kilala mo si Kristo pero minsan hindi natin Siya nakikilala. Be watchful of your OLD SINFUL WAYS, SELF-RELIANCE & OUR FAILURES. These 3 things make you forget who Jesus is.
Friends, Easter did not end last Sunday. It continues on today and in the coming days. May Jesus #RiseUp in our lives each day so we may recognize HIM in all our situations.
Be blessed!!! - alvinfabella@yahoo.com #ShareAboutJesus

"WALANG-WALA"

a personal reflection on Easter Sunday April 21, 2019

"EMPTY" does not usually refer to something good.
  • You don't celebrate when you noticed that your car is running on EMPTY while you are in the middle of a traffic jam.
  • You don't jump for joy when you're about to pay your food bill & your wallet is EMPTY.
  • You don't laugh when you need to call & your mobile phone's battery is near EMPTY.
  • You're not happy, when after 2 weeks of being out of the house due to work, you arrived at an EMPTY home.

Emptiness usually makes us worry, panic or sad. Pero iba ngayong araw na ito. Today, being EMPTY is a reason to celebrate. Because the EMPTY tomb should make us joyful! Why?
Jesus sufferred, was crucified, died & was buried. But now HE IS RISEN! He is back & He won't die again.
"Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him." - Romans 6:9
Jesus has beaten death. "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" (1 Corinthians 15:55). MAY NANALO NA!
Jesus rising up is the foundation of our faith. Because "if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain" (1 Corinthians 15:14)
So, what does this mean for us?
We can rejoice, celebrate, jump for joy or be happy. Yes, we have all the reasons to be joyful. But most of all we need to BE THANKFUL.
Starting today, may we always find a reason to be thankful. I know sometimes the situation looks so dark. Parang walang rason na magpasalamat tayo. It's easier to grumble than be grateful. Why not start with simple things? We can be thankful for the air we breathe, the phone that you are using to read this post or the pandesal you had this breakfast. Do that more often so you can be a gratitude magnet.
Sana MATUTO NA TAYO NA MAGPASALAMAT NG MADALAS.
  • Thank God despite the trials
  • Thank God despite the sickness
  • Thank God despite the temptations
  • Thank God despite the failures
  • Thank God despite the broken relationships
  • Thank God for giving up a lot to save us
  • Thank God for rising & showing us the way!

1 Thessalonians 5:18 says "give thanks in all circumstances".

Simulan ko na Kaibigan. Thank you for reading this post! May you have a happy & blessed Easter!!! - alvinfabella@yahoo.com

"I AM or I AM NOT"

a personal reflection on Good Friday

Life is all about choices.

The choices we make defines what we are made of. Your character is more revealed by the choices you make in times of distress.
  • Jesus could choose to escape when Judas, some Pharisees & a band of soldiers arrived to arrest Him. But instead He came out & said "I AM HE" (John 18:5)
  • Jesus could choose to stay silent yet He even asked them "Whom do you seek?" (John 18:7). Then when replied that they were looking for Jesus, He replied, "I told you that I AM HE" (John 18:8)

Peter also had a choice.
  • But when a maid recognized him as one of Jesus' apostles, he replied, "I am not" (John 18:17).
  • While Peter was standing & warming himself, they said to him, "Are not you also one of his disciples?" He denied it and said, "I am not." (John 18:25)
  •  When one of the servants of the high priest asked Peter, "Did I not see you in the garden with him?" Peter again denied it (John 18:26-27). Maybe Peter blurted out the three words again, "I am not".

Jesus said "I AM". Peter said "I AM NOT". They chose different answers in the same distressing situation.
Jesus chose the CROSS over His COMFORT. HE chose to SACRIFICE Himself over SAVING Himself. He chose to follow the Father's will over His. Conversely, Peter chose DENIAL over DANGER. He chose to avoid ARREST over ADMISSION. Peter chose his SAFETY over his SAVIOR.
JESUS also calls you to make a choice. He asks you to choose not only during stressful times but EVERY TIME. He preaches that "He who is not with me is against me" (Matthew 12:30). With Christ, it's either 100% or zero percent. No sitting on the fence when it comes to God. Remember, God chose to become man to save YOU.

"And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross." - Philippians 2:8

Good Friday was filled with very bad choices made by men. But this day also proves to us that GOD WILL ALWAYS CHOOSE US. That truth makes this day a very Good Friday! - alvinfabella@yahoo.com

REPENT, RINSE, REPEAT

Can you imagine a close family member washing your feet? Yes. Walang problema dyan.

How about an officemate or your classmate? Well, maybe. Pero pili lang, hindi lahat. How about someone superior? Can you imagine your boss or your teacher washing your feet? Nah, maybe not. Kahiya naman. That would be too embarrassing.

Can you imagine Jesus washing your feet?

Peter could not. He was shocked when Jesus approached him with that intention. That’s why he said “You will never wash my feet.” (John 13:8).
But Jesus proceeded & explained to him that "Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me."
Peter agrees & Jesus proceeds to wash his feet clean.
REPENT. That’s the first step. We need to agree & accept Jesus. We need to turn away from our sins. Dapat isuko natin ang buhay natin sa Kanya.
RINSE. That’s the next process. Jesus will washed not only the dirt of our feet. He will wash our souls clean. He sanctifies us through His blood.
"Therefore, brothers, since through the blood of Jesus we have confidence of entrance into the sanctuary” - Hebrews 10:19
But what if I fall again? What if I give in to temptation?
Then REPEAT the first step. Go before God again and ask for forgiveness. They say it takes 21 days to develop a habit. You have to keep on doing something for 21 days before it becomes automatic. Repetition is key. Well, it takes more than 21 days to a saint. Pero possible yan. WITH GOD ANYTHING IS. You will be a new creation in God. Jesus says “Behold, I make all things new.” (Revelations 21:5)

REPENT, RINSE & REPEAT if necessary.

Kahit gaano kadumi ng buhay mo, handa si Hesus na linisin ito. Ang tanong ay handa ba tayo na lumapit sa Kanya?
Have a blessed Holy Thursday! - alvinfabella@yahoo.com

OFF-LINE ULIT?!?

Ang hirap pag off-line ang banko. Di tayo makakuha ng pera, deposit o transfer. Para saan pa ang banko kung offline naman ito?

Ganyan din pag OFFLINE tayo sa Diyos. We can't GET His grace, can't DEPOSIT our prayer requests & can't fully TRANSFER God's love to others.

What's purpose of being a Christian if we can't stay connected to Jesus?
