A personal reflection on today's Gospel MARK 7:31-37 (September 9, 2018)
"Thank you po!"
Then the birthday boy ran away with our gift to him. Napapansin mo ba kung gaano kadali tumanggap ng regalo ang mga bata. Any child gladly takes a gift without hesitation. Wala ng tanong-tanong. Tanggap lang ng tanggap. Maybe that's why Jesus says that we need to be child-like in Matthew 18:3. Kids freely received gifts. They don't say “I don’t deserve this" or "Who am I to get this?" In today's Gospel, we can get three important points about how to receive gifts.
We need to ASK, ALLOW & ACCESS.

In today's Gospel, we can get three important points about how to receive gifts.
We need to ASK, ALLOW & ACCESS.
1. ASK. All we have to do is ask. Luke 11:9 says "Ask, and it will be given you." This is what happened in today's Gospel. "And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech; and they begged him to lay his hand upon him." - Mark 7:32. The friends of the deaf man asked Jesus to heal him. They begged. May kailangan ka ba sa Diyos? Go before God and ask Him. Tell your friends about your concern & ask them to pray with you. Ask God. Beg God. Then go to the second point.
2. ALLOW. You need to allow Jesus to work. "And taking him aside from the multitude privately, he (Jesus) put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue" - Mark 7:33. That's the key. Ask God then let God be God. Do your part but don't put everything on your shoulders. You were made in the image & likeness of God but YOU ARE NOT GOD! Magdasal, umaksyon tapos ipaubaya mo na sa Diyos. Simply wait & do the last point.
3. ACCESS. The last point is that we need to be open. In Mark 7:34 it says "looking up to heaven, he (Jesus) sighed, and said to him, " Eph'phatha," that is, "Be opened." Be open to what? Have access to what? Be open to small blessings so that you can receive the bigger blessings. The problem is that our eyes & ears are "closed" because the world's noise blocks us from seeing & hearing the blessings. Small or big, blessing pa din yan! Appreciate everything that you receive. If you woke up today, you're alive, Thank God! If you get promoted tomorrow, thank God! Be open also when God says "NO" or "WAIT" because He knows what's best for you.
When you apply ASK, ALLOW & ACCESS in your life then you will experience God's abundant grace & power. As Mark 7:37 says be "astonished beyond measure." Ang plano ng Diyos para sa iyo ay parating higit pa at sobra-sobra pa kung ano man ang plano mo! Ang grasya ng Diyos ay parating siksik, liglig at umaapaw. I say again, be ready to be "astonished beyond measure."
May you have a blessed week! - alvinfabella@yahoo.com
